Learn the ancient Bundle Dyeing technique to craft your own stunning silk scarf!

Bundle dye your very own silk scarf using flower petals, seeds, beans, onion skins and plant extract dyes to produce intricate and vibrant prints.

WHAT WILL I DO?

Experience a brief introduction to the are of dying fabric using plants.


You will be taken through print samples, which show colours and patterns as a source of inspiration for your own creativity. You will choose flowers and plant extracts, then prepare materials for printing. All print materials ( flowers , plant extracts) are explained through their dyeing colour capabilities.

Flowers and plant extracts are scattered/ placed onto the silk scarf and wrapped into a bundle, then steamed. While bundles are in the steaming process, you will learn another technique. Japanese Tatakizome (flower pounding) onto a greeting card. Using a hammer to release pigments and create prints.

Then the element of surprise, silk bundles are removed from the steamer and opened to reveal their unique, natural dyed prints.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Not previous knowledge or skills needed and is suitable for adults and young people/teens , plus 10+ ages accompanied by an adult

HOW LONG IS IT?

The workshop will run for 3 hours

WHAT WILL I LEAVE WITH?

Your own unique hand-printed silk scarf and a handmade greeting card

Claire has worked as a clothing designer for 23yrs in the industry. She established 3 Storey Design as a way to take time out from the fast pace of the Fashion Industry and to reconnect with the natural world of craft.
