Thursday 2 July, 6pm: Extruding Clay with Carla Lavin (Yew Tree Ceramics)

£45.00

Design and create your own custom dies to extrude unique shapes. Then explore hand-building techniques to assemble to create a custom piece!

WHAT WILL I DO?

You'll learn how to use a handheld clay extruder (a tool which pushes clay through a shaped opening) to make your own custom shapes. Then you'll take your extruded pieces and use simple hand-building techniques, like cutting them up, stacking and joining them to create your own sculptural pieces.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and experienced ceramicists alike. Enjoy a day of hand-building with extrusions or develop specialist skills in for use in your practice.

HOW LONG IS IT?

The workshop will run for 2 hours

WHAT WILL I LEAVE WITH?

Afterwards, the finished pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then glazed in a simple neutral colour (which would take no longer than 4 weeks). The pieces ill be returned to Good Yard for collection.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Carla uses sculptural installation to explore our connection with the natural world around us. This is driven by a curiosity for production and reproduction, realised through experimentation with materials, process and form, to create sculptures which straddle the boundary between nature and the man-made.

She uses organic materials as a media; predominantly clay, as whilst this process has connections to anthropomorphic evolution and primitive man, it remains inherent in our everyday lives.
